For many people, smartphones are perfect for listening to music, but there’s still a niche audience for MP3 players, and it makes sense why. When you need a device that can be relied on for longer trips, an MP3 player can be the perfect choice.
You can often find great deals for MP3 players that can store a large collection of music, and more importantly, play music for a long time. Owning an MP3 player can be a more convenient alternative to running down your phone battery.
We’ve picked out the best MP3 players for 2019 by focusing on storage size, affordability, and battery life. At the end we will also show you how much you could save if you purchase an MP3 player through Techscheme.

Sony 4GB Waterproof All in One MP3 Player

Sony 4GB
If you’re looking for a portable MP3 player on a budget, you really can’t go wrong with the Sony NW-WS413B. This MP3 player is an all in one device that includes both the MP3 player and the headphones.
The entire design is waterproof and fits snugly around your neck like some of the more popular Bluetooth earphones available. Because the MP3 components are built into the earphone pieces themselves, it is a little heavier than your typical wired earphones.
The waterproof capabilities really are something special, though. The Sony NW-WS413B is even tough enough to be used whilst swimming. You can get about 12 hours of battery life out of this MP3 player, and with 4GB of storage, you can fit up to 900 songs.
There are some shortcomings - if you have a good pair of earphones, it may make sense to purchase a more suitable option, and the functionality is limited to basic playback controls.

SONY Walkman B183 4GB

SONY Walkman B183
The Sony Walkman B183 is a great option for portability and price. For £39 you get a durable finger sized player that can fit up to 900 songs. You also get a 0.9” OLED display that showcases which songs are playing and how much battery is left. Despite the small size, you can also get up to 20 hours of battery life on the Walkman B183.
If you’re in a hurry and have run out of charge, you don’t need to worry because the quick charge feature will give you a bit of juice to play music in just 3 minutes of charge time. You can play both MP3 and WMA files and transferring music is super easy. You can pop out the cap on the top and you’ll find a built-in USB ready to go. Plug it into your PC and drag files across to the Walkman.

Sony Walkman NW-E394R 8GB

For an extra £19 you can get an upgraded Walkman with more storage, more battery, and significantly more functionality. The NW-E39R has 8GB storage, which means up to 1800 songs. The bigger design means there is space for a better battery, allowing you to get up to 35 hours of battery life.
On top of that, the included LED display makes navigating through your music far easier. You can easily drag and drop your music files onto your Walkman once it is plugged into your PC, and this Walkman also has FM radio support.

Apple iPod touch 6th Generation

Apple iPod touch
You might be surprised, but Apple still sells their iPod touch range. The 6th generation version runs iOS 12, which means you will get a similar software experience to any other current iOS device. Obviously the hardware isn’t as powerful as iPhones or iPads, but the A8 chip gives you enough power to download apps like Spotify or even play a few games from the App Store.
The iPod touch is quite a step up in price in comparison to the other MP3 players on this list, but the iPod Touch 6th generation is in a category of its own. It’s more of a full blown media player that supports apps like YouTube, Safari, Netflix, and many others.
You get a 4 inch 1136x640 resolution IPS display on the iPod touch 6th generation, but the bigger design allows for a bigger battery. You can get up to 40 hours of music playback or 8 hours of video playback on a full charge. There are two capacity options - the 32GB version for £199 or the 128GB version for £299.

Summary and Saving Potential

Hopefully, one of the options in this list will be perfect for you. Ultimately, buying something like the iPod touch will come down to how much you will use it. If you desperately need something to get you through the day so that your phone battery doesn’t die on you, the iPod touch is a huge step up from any standard MP3 player. However, a cheaper choice is still on the table if you just need basic music playback.
